The Veterans Day Band and Choir Concert was held at Leesburg High School on November 10th, and featured the band and the choir. The opening feature of the concert was "The National Anthem," played by the Wind Ensemble, conducted by Mr. Fielder. After the Wind Ensemble finished, the Illusions Choir sang "On Justice, Truth and Peace," conducted by Mrs. Striker.

Alternating between the Illusions Choir and the Wind Ensemble each played a piece. One was composed and conducted by Mr. Frank Kelly himself, called "Returning Home." Mr. Kelly was asked to compose the piece by the 2015 Wind Ensemble to be played at the 2016 Veterans Day Concert. A five minute intermission introduced the 2016 LHS Swing Band and Madrigals Choir. The Choir had a feature with the Swing Band called "Glory," by Common and John Legend. The soloist for the performance was Christopher Williams.

After the Madrigals Choir feature, a trumpet quartet from the Swing Band with Jeremy Bobo, Jessica Harrison, Jeremiah Wright, and Andrew Lockard, played the 1941 hit song "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" by The Andrews Sisters. There were many veterans dancing in the isles as the band took away the stage with the nostalgia of early jump blues from the 1940's. To wind the night down, the Swing band had a soloist of their own: Simon Ramos, who performed "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree," by Tony Orlando and Dawn. The Veterans Day Concert at Leesburg High School was a tribute to all of the veterans that have served for our country, so we thank them with the performances!
